You helped us raise $37,695 for Muhato School!
Thank you for joining us in bringing hope to the children of G.S. Muhato!
In October, some of our staff had the opportunity to travel to the district of Rubavu in Rwanda’s Western Province. Just a short drive from the Wellspring office, we visited a school called Groupe Scolaire St. Joseph Muhato. The school grounds are backdropped by a volcano, as well as a few of those beautiful green hills that Rwanda is so well known for. Here at Muhato, the school community is thriving, and you can feel it when you walk through the gates. The welcome is warm, but quiet because all of the students are in classrooms. Right where they should be.
We were privileged to sit down and have a conversation with the school leaders and the chairs of the parent committee. They shared with us about how the school has changed as they have implemented their learnings from Wellspring’s training sessions. The school leader, Therese, has only been at Muhato for one year and already she is seeing the staff and parents become an example of quality education not only in their school community, but beyond the school gates. Yet, as well as they are doing, they still dream of doing more!
We asked the school leader what she wants her school to look like in three years, what she wants her school to be known for. She replied,
“We wish that in three years our school will be the best performing school, meaning that the students are performing well, but also that wherever they should be, people would see in them the values and character we teach here. So that people will meet them and say that, “really, truly, this one has been to G.S. Muhato.”
This year on Giving Tuesday, we asked you to join us in raising $16,800 to support Wellspring’s work at G.S. Muhato for the next year. Through your incredible generosity, we raised a total of $37,695!! This means that not only is our work in Muhato supported in 2020, but thousands of children in neighbouring schools will also have the opportunity to receive a quality education!
Thank you to the Joyful Living Joyful Giving Foundation*, as well as several other anonymous donors, who generously partnered with us throughout the day by providing match funding.
* The Joyful Living Joyful Giving Foundation was started by our friends Ray and Doris Olafsen. Ray was a long-time member of the Wellspring Board, and before he passed away in 2017, he and Doris and their family set up the foundation with a commitment to see a world where contagious generosity revives, renews, and empowers people and organizations. We are so grateful for their years of commitment, prayer and support to the children of Rwanda. We celebrated Ray’s love for colourful and fun socks yesterday with a sock draw, and were excited to give away 19 pairs of socks in his honour!
