The values that drive you today can live on for tomorrow.
With a gift in your will to Wellspring, you can continue to create the future you believe in. A future where every child’s potential is recognized, where every child is treated with dignity, and where every child has the opportunity to thrive. You’ll transform lives by empowering those who lead, teach, and raise Africa’s children with the tools to engage, nurture, and inspire a new generation of servant leaders.
It’s a statement of your values, and of your commitment to building the Kingdom for the generations that come after you.
How to Leave a Bequest to Wellspring
- Get your questions answered. Connect with our team at Wellspring (canada@wellspring.ngo) to answer any questions you may have about our work and the potential impact of your gift. We would be honoured to discuss your legacy with you. Connect with your financial advisor and lawyer to receive expert advice on how to leave a legacy and how that benefits your estate.
- Speak with your loved ones. One of the greatest concerns of legacy donors is how their gift will be perceived by their loved ones. Share your intentions, your passions, and what it means for your family.
- Update your will. Decide whether you want to leave a percentage or a specific amount of your estate to Wellspring and update your will with the recommended wording from your legal advisor. You will need to provide them with three pieces of information:
- The organization name – “The Wellspring Foundation for Education”
- The charitable number – “88633 4408 RR0001”
- The legal address – “PO Box 32112, Langley, BC, V1M 2M3”
- Share your bequest intentions with Wellspring. There is no legal obligation to disclose your intention to leave a legacy gift to Wellspring. However, we would appreciate knowing this information so as to offer proper thanks for the gift, and discuss with you how we can best steward your legacy.
Frequently Asked Questions
One of the frequent concerns that come up around legacy giving is whether or not children will be upset that money is being “taken away” from them. However, one of the benefits of legacy giving is the reduction in estate taxes. Your estate receives a charitable tax receipt that can decrease (or even eliminate) estate taxes.
We can’t tell you what attitude your children might bring to estate conversations. However, we can tell you the majority of children are supportive of the choice, and feel the beauty of transforming lives and creating a lasting impact through legacy giving. It’s a positive memory of who you are as a person and the values you followed in your life.
Not at all. We sincerely appreciate that your passion for our work extends to your legacy, and appreciate all gifts – big or small. Legacy giving is not just for wealthy individuals, but is for anyone who wants to make an impact through their will. It may feel like a single drop of rain in a desert, but together those raindrops can form a mighty river.
At all stages of the fundraising and program implementation processes, Wellspring makes an effort to steward gifts wisely. We recognize how important gifts are to our financial partners, and seek to use donations with partnership in mind. This is not our work that donors are funding, but a mission that we are seeking to fulfill together.
If you have questions or concerns about how your legacy gift will be used, we suggest that you reach out to us. Let us have those conversations in advance, to calm those fears and enable us to act in the knowledge of your wishes, in true partnership.
We never know what tomorrow will bring. It may happen that your finances change and you are no longer able to leave Wellspring the legacy gift you originally intended. That’s okay. We understand that these situations happen, and simply appreciate that you value our mission such that you would consider leaving a legacy gift in the first place.
Not at all! As written above, your lawyer will merely need three pieces of information to add Wellspring into your will: our legal name (The Wellspring Foundation for Education), our charitable registration number (88633 4408 RR0001), and our legal address (215-20171 92A Avenue, Langley, BC V1M 3A5).
Your lawyer will have standard language that they use for charitable bequests, but the following are wording samples:
Unrestricted Gifts:
“I direct my Estate Trustee to give to The Wellspring Foundation for Education the sum of $_____ (or ___% of my residue) to be used for its general purposes.”
Designated or Restricted Gifts:
“I direct my Estate Trustee to give to The Wellspring Foundation for Education the sum of $_____ (or ___% of my residue) to be used for the purpose of _____________ (examples include: highest priority needs or a specific program), provided that if such a purpose ceases to exist or ceases to be provided by The Wellspring Foundation for Education, then the legacy shall not fail but the Board of Directors of The Wellspring Foundation for Education shall use such legacy for a purpose which most closely resembles the spirit and general intent of the gift.”
