[two_third_last]Gatsata Primary is a K-6 urban school located on the highway near the main bus park; it is in quite a chaotic place. 30% of the students come from single parent families or child headed households.

Numbers:

13 Teachers, 741 Students in K-6.

Challenges:

There is very high absenteeism, with about 30% of pupils absent on a daily basis. 20% are arriving at school without a meal. There is a serious issue with female students involved in prostitution, and there are a high number of orphans.

Progress:

There has been a positive shift from a rote-based to a learner-centered education. Teachers have become more self-confident in their teaching. There is a deeper trust and collaboration between teachers and leaders, allowing them to better address the serious issues at Gatsata.
