Welcome to the team Libby!
We’re so excited to introduce you to the newest member of our Wellspring family—Libby Karangwa-Miles! Libby will be stepping into the role of Rwanda Country Director on July 23rd and we couldn’t be happier! She comes to us with a rich background of work in education across Africa, bringing great experience and insight into the role.
Libby has spent the last nine years working in education in East and West Africa. She has experience in leadership, advocacy and education program management roles in Rwanda and Senegal for the UK government’s cultural relations organization, the British Council, and previously with local government in rural Rwanda for Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO). Libby spent two years trekking up hills and through mud to some of the most remote schools in south western Rwanda, listening to and supporting teachers and head teachers, and seeing firsthand many of the challenges faced in educating Rwanda’s children.
Libby grew up in a family that loves Jesus and believes that as Christians we can—and should—bless those around us through our work and relationships, bringing positive change, justice, and God’s love to a broken world.
After graduating from the University of Leeds, Libby moved from the UK to France where she worked as a teacher. During this time, she also served a local church by working with young people and setting up creative arts and music events. Her passion for social justice, languages, and education then took her on a journey from Tanzania to Rwanda to Senegal and now back ‘home’ to Rwanda.
Libby is married to Karangwa, and they have two little boys Manzi and Jack. Libby loves to sing, make music on the keys and guitar, and is most relaxed outside in big green spaces.
Wellspring is thrilled to have Libby overseeing our Rwandan team, and we can’t wait to see the ways in which our organization will grow and thrive under her guidance.
Welcome to the team, Libby!
