[one_column]His hands guide hers. They are the mature and experienced hands of a gifted Rwandan artist as he helps a young Canadian woman form clay upon the wheel.
The Artist has been making beautiful clay from this remote location in Southern Rwanda for many years. The young woman is visiting Rwanda for the first time. Yet teacher and student work together in a first attempt to form something beautiful.
The above photo was taken during a Vision Trip to Rwanda as 22 Wellspring supporters, 4 new staff members, and volunteers engaged meaningfully with our work. And it does so much to capture what we are trying to achieve.
Community. Dignity. Vulnerability. Collaboration. Service.
These are the beautiful things more often created in non-descript places. These are the things easily missed even when they sit right in front of us. These are the things we must seek out intentionally if we are to find them.
For how often are we willing to take our hands and fully place them in the hands of another?
It has been twenty years since the Rwandan genocide, and a decade since God called us to join with Rwandans in rebuilding their country and compelled us to start The Wellspring Foundation. Since that time we have completed the Wellspring Academy, now one of the leading schools in Rwanda, and created our innovative School Development Program, now working in 48 schools to create vibrant school communities for the 1,200 teachers and 70,000+ children that we serve.
Yet what we celebrate on our 10 Year Anniversary is not primarily about projects established, policies influenced, and programs accomplished. It is about people whose lives are being forever changed as they place their hands in the hands of the Master Artist. He knows how to restore lives, He knows how to heal broken hearts, and He asks us to join Him.
Thank you for responding to that call. We have so much ahead of us and so many more lives to influence as we deepen our work in the school communities, build our new regional headquarters, open the new Abundant Leadership Center in Rwanda, and start a whole new chapter in Burundi.
Are you ready for the story of these next ten years as we place our hands in the hands of the Master Artist?
We hope so because we have never been so excited about the future. Together we are stepping out in faith as we seek to significantly expand our impact, and we want you to be part of that journey.
With gratitude, on behalf of our whole team,
Richard Taylor
Future Rwanda Country Director
